A week ago one of our Youth Pastors and I were chatting over lunch while we waited for an amp to be repaired. As is common our conversation circled around new technology, how the church can utilize technology, and how some technology has taken a strong grip on our lives. I have come to believe that email is the poor mans instant messaging; or at least there are a lot of people out there who think so. Often I walk across the church and someone will invariably ask me “Did you get my email yet?” So how do we regain control of our lives and put the MAIL back into email?
Would the Real Facebook Please Stand Up
Over the past several weeks I have been doing a lot of research into Facebook in preparation for a presentation that I will be giving to the parents of our youth programs at Lakeside. I’ve done a lot of reading, listened to other speakers, both critics and advocates, as well as some research into Mark Zuckerberg himself. What I have learned is that many of the 500+ million users on Facebook don’t understand what it really is.
Technology was Never Intended to be Evil
I love technology, the good, the bad and the ugly, I love it all. But some days I look at how we have perverted some technology and I wonder why? We have all probably seen some movie were the scientist develops something so amazing with the intent of improving the human condition only to have the antagonist steal it and use it for evil. While this makes for great movie plots, it happens in the real world more often then we think.
